Guestbook

We rented Quart-A-Nancy Point pretty regularly from 2005 – 2010, however, Hurricane Earl made a direct hit on the BVIs during August 2010 and while the house was essentially untouched, we stopped renting for several years as we made repairs to the jetty and grounds. Additionally, we were impacted by Hurricanes Irma and Maria during Sept 2017 and were unable to rent again until December 2018. Thus we don’t have a lot of recent guest comments. We have undergone major repairs to the dock and significant repairs and renovations to infrastructure and the house and the everything is finally back in tip-top condition and available to renters. We are adding new guest comments here as our rental operation gets restarted.

Oelkers Family – Dallas, TX, March 11 – 19, 2024, 5 Stars

Oh, Cooper Island! What a slice of paradise in March 2024. Flew into Tortola, booked Israel (A local Captain) to pick us up and our groceries from Port Purcell, that ride was absolutely stunning. The house was beautifully setup for watching the ships sail by and beautiful sunsets. Hanging out on the patio, sipping coffee (morning) or tea (night), watching the horizon felt so right. And sleeping there? It was like crashing in the middle of a forest and ocean, with crickets and all sorts of animals chatting the night away as the waves come into shore. The sunset, the moon setting over the mountain, the stars—everything was just so bright and beautiful. There were moments I just had to pinch myself and think, “This is it. The most beautiful moment of my life.”

Food-wise, we kept it simple yet tasty – Picked up our food at Riteway in Port Purcell, before coming to the island, mostly food easy to Airfry and fresh melons as desert/fruit. Feeding coffee grinds to the crabs became our quirky little hobby. Even got a rainbow one morning. The purified rainwater tasted like heaven and we always had enough solar power.

Plenty of snorkeling gear was at the house. We snorkeled daily always stopping at the beach club—great food, loved the rum bar, and, of course a family competitive game of darts. Watching the boys learn to drive the dinghy was fun. They’re 13 and 16, we never left the bay but it was just fun exploring. Snorkeling we ran into a family of five turtles, stingrays, barracudas… the ocean life was just fun. I’ve never felt more at home in the ocean, just being in calm water and taking it all in.

We booked Israel for a day trip around BVI’s snorkeling hot spots was a no-brainer. He took us to the Baths, Peter Island, Caves, Indians, Willie Tee bar, Ship Wreck of Salt Island. Israel was our ride home too. Honestly, this trip was everything. Cooper Island, you’ve got a piece of my heart! Fred was amazingly responsive. Can’t wait to come back.

We spent a delightful week at Quart-a-Nancy Point and absolutely loved the house, view, and easy access to the water (but note that if you are mobility challenged this would not be the place for you — it;s a short but steep walk down to the water). Highlights include the stunning panoramic view from the porch, well-equipped kitchen, and generous amenities (snorkel gear, kayak, dinghy, games, and books). Despite recovering damage to the near-shore coral from recent hurricanes, we saw turtles, eagle- and stingrays, barracuda, sharks, octopus, and many fish. We had some logistical challenges in terms of transportation and provisioning that were undoubtedly due to our lack of familiarity with the BVI and Cooper Island – we strongly advise making arrangements for both well in advance, and provisioning generously for your time there. We ended up enjoying quite a few meals at the Cooper Island Beach Club, which were very nice (if a mite pricey). We also found the CIBC staff to be generous and helpful with advice and contact information. Many thanks to Fred and his family for sharing their wonderful house with us – we hope to be back one day!

Fred and Candia –

This trip to Quart-A-Nancy has truly been a vacation of a lifetime! It is going to be very difficult to pick up and leave tomorrow morning. The house and all the accommodations have been outstanding! All the comforts of home perched on a cliff in paradise. We had everything we needed during our two week stay. And this was the first visit for our family to the BVIs. And what an introduction! Everyone had a blast. Highlights included:

  • Lots of snorkeling off the dock with the turtles, rays, and many fish
  • Kayak trip over to south side of Salt Island
  • Hikes to the top of the peak behind house and to the Haulover
  • Rented a boat to explore Virgin Gorda
  • Day sail and snorkel trip to Norman and Peter Island
  • Christmas Eve and Christmas dinner at the Beach Club
  • Crazy New Year’s Eve party at Beach Club
  • Steak and lobster dinner on the porch
  • Three mornings with rainbows including a full double rainbow our last morning
  • And of course, much food, drinks, relaxation, and watching the boats in the bay from this incredible porch!

So thank you for sharing your home with us in this incredible part of the world. You allowed us to have some great family memories. Warren has been terrific getting us settled in, and when we needed him. We all hope to have a chance to spend some time here again.

Fondly –

New Year 2014 at Quart-A-Nancy Point
Date of Stay: January 3, 2014
We rang in the New Year in a lovely location with spectacular views – our paradise for the week. We started out our journey with Gee and Keven (Deep Blue Charters) as our guides and Nick as our welcome crew. Everyone on the island is very friendly & the easy pace was just what we needed. The house is wonderful & if you don’t mind putting in a bit of effort, your visit will be splendid. We enjoyed the morning sun on the jetty & snorkeling, kayaking, and swimming in the afternoons. The sugar birds (bananaquits) enjoyed the sugar we put in the coconut & hermit crabs devoured all our compostable scraps. The goats offered some entertainment as well, leaping among the rocks & calling to one another. Sunset on the porch was breathtaking. We will miss this place & hope to return to Cooper Island someday.

You get to Q-A-N by boat. You walk from the Beef Island airport, cross the street and onto a dock. Five minutes, unless you want to go to the cool art studio. Provisions can be gotten from a number of places, including the caretakers. In 40 minutes or so you will arrive at the Q-A-N jetty, walk up the steep driveway shaded by aloes, palms and rubber trees and into the house.

Q a N is not fancy. You have to be mindful of your electric use (though we put in several days telecommuting) The house is older with character, colorful paint, cute hermit crabs and great plants and birds. The beds are comfy and completely furnished with everything a family could need. Books, games, all the cookware We lacked for nothing. The rooms of the house are large and pleasant with ceiling fans. But the outdoor living room and courtyard is where we spent all of our time.
The best part of Q-A-N is just relaxing to the rhythm of the island. Coffee, swim, watch the boats drop their moorings and sail off, You can jump off the jetty with sea turtles, We kayaked with a dolphin. You can snorkel the whole Bay shoreline. Eat lunch, paint/read/nap Snorkel Cistern Rock -One of the Bvi’s top ten snorkel spots right on the other side of the bay. Go to the Beach club for happy hour or have rum drinks on the patio and watch the sunset and the mega yachts sail by. Once you are on Island, you won’t want to leave, but you can arrange trips with the dive shop on Cooper. We’ll be back!

We had 12 glorious days at Quart-A-Nancy Point. What a fabulous spot. This was truly the most relaxing vacation we have ever taken. We have sailed to Cooper Island for the last 10 years, and decided to rent a house this time. The best decision ever! The views are spectacular, the hermit crabs very entertaining, snorkeling and kayaking for exercise, and enjoying reading on the beautiful outdoor living room porch (love the hammock!). Everything about this home is ideal. We’ll be back. Thank you to Fred and Candia for allowing us to rent your paradise.
